How the New WhatsApp Account Hack Works
Due to the high cost of internet data in Ghana, many people turn to third-party vendors who offer data at significantly reduced prices compared to what telecommunication companies (Telcos) charge. Unfortunately, some of these vendors are scammers. They convince individuals to make payments but fail to deliver the promised data.
Once payment is made, the scammer instructs the victim to follow a step-by-step process, claiming it’s necessary to get the data credited to their account. As part of this process, the scammer asks the victim to share a code, which they claim is needed to complete the transaction. This code, however, is the WhatsApp login code —a key that grants access to the victim’s WhatsApp account.
After receiving the login code, the scammer gains control of the WhatsApp account. They use the hacked account to send messages to the victim’s contacts, asking them to send money or fall for other scams. This situation leaves victims in a vulnerable position, often causing further financial damage.
How to Protect Yourself from WhatsApp Account Hacking
To safeguard yourself from such scams, it’s essential to follow these safety tips:
1. Never share your WhatsApp login code: No legitimate vendor or person should ever ask for your WhatsApp code. Always keep it private to protect against WhatsApp account hacking.
2. Enable two-step verification: By enabling two-step verification, even if someone manages to get your WhatsApp login code, they will still need your two-step PIN to access your account. This additional security layer makes it harder for hackers to break in. To activate two-step verification, go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Two-step verification.

3. Buy data from trusted sources: Ideally, you should purchase internet data directly from your Telco. However, if you prefer using third-party vendors, make sure they send you the data before making payment. If they are genuine, they may agree to send you a small portion of the data first to avoid WhatsApp account hacking.
4. Avoid unknown vendors: Stick to vendors with proven track records and reviews from other users. Scammers often rely on anonymity, so conducting a quick background check on the vendor can save you from falling victim to a scam.
This WhatsApp account hack is just one of many tactics scammers use to exploit unsuspecting individuals. Always be vigilant and avoid sharing sensitive information, especially your WhatsApp login code. By enabling two-step verification and being cautious when buying internet data from third-party vendors, you can significantly reduce the risk of WhatsApp account hacking.
Stay safe, protect your account, and help spread awareness to prevent others from becoming victims.
